"Game of Life" Weekend Adventures©

Camp C.H.O.I.C.E (Children Having Opportunities In Creating Environment) is a unique, Kansas City based business, providing life enrichment experiences that empower youth to avoid and overcome personal, and social challenges. Our signature service, Camp CHOICE "Game of Life" Weekend Adventures©, wows teens with a fun adult life simulation aimed to equip them with knowledge and skills to enhance their transition toward independence.

The founder, Janay Reliford-Davis, strongly believes in brand ownership, and chose not to pursue nonprofit status, which means financial contributions are not tax deductible. However, Camp CHOICE never turns youth away for lack of ability to pay, so monetary gifts are truly needed, greatly appreciated & wisely utilized!

Over the course of a weekend, we create and execute a game. During this game, 50 boys & girls, per weekend, randomly choose a mock social/financial status, which determines the lodging amenities they start the game from. Then they experience true to life’s ups & downs obstacles designed to challenge them and increase/decrease their mock finances. Their final income status determines the lodging they end with. Youth also explore the Camp CHOICE "Life Lessons©" curriculum including Life Inquiry/Race, Culture & Family/Education, Careers & Financial Stability/External & Internal Evolvement.

During the camp, youth are served healthy meals with cooking demos, and recipes, so each child is able to recreate what they ate during the weekend.

We also offer fun physical fitness instruction teaching on healthy lifestyles, and get their bodies moving. Some of the activities offer and element of teamwork with other youth in a fun atmosphere. We make sure we are feeding their bodies as well as their minds.

Broken families, poverty, homelessness, abuse, drug & alcohol addiction, suicide, incarceration…the list goes on for the deep challenges faced by too many of our most vulnerable citizens, our youth. ChildHelp.org reports, “…Every year more than 3.6 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6.6 million children (a report can include multiple children). The United States has among the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect.”

 

Statistics have proven that children who grow up in loving, nurturing and stable environments, have much greater chances of avoiding adverse and traumatic experiences. Children need more opportunities to gain the critical life skills needed to survive, and thrive in this fast paced, technology driven, and bias structured culture.

Since 2011, Camp CHOICE has provided its signature, “Game of Life” Weekend Adventures located in Kansas City, MO, as a resource to counteract the negative stimuli teens are attacked by every day. These adult life simulations serve teens, teaching youth the economics of independence through an exciting and interactive game, where campers randomly choose a life profile to stay in copper, gold, or platinum level lodging. Then, they go through obstacles and obtain life cards to determine what lodging level they end in. Teens get insight on the difficulties of adult responsibilities, and how to use their choices as tools for success. Campers also explore topics on morals, family, education, careers, learn how to cook healthy meals, enjoy fun physical fitness & more!
